Visionstream has successfully completed the anticipated ultra-fast broadband build on Waiheke Island, enabling the connection of high speed broadband services to schools, business and homes.
Visionstream representatives joined NZ Communications Minister Amy Adams and Minister and Central Auckland MP Nikki Kaye, as well as representatives from Chorus, Auckland councillor Mike Lee and Local Waiheke board members for the announcement that the UFB communal build on Waiheke Island is now complete.
As part of the announcement, Visionstream was publicly acknowledged for its role in this success and for the contribution to the Waiheke residents and local businesses. Minister Adams emphasised the importance of the technology and how beneficial the new broadband is for the community and the local economy.
Almost 90 per cent of Waiheke Island now has access to the UFB service, including all local schools. Doctors will also see improvements in efficiency as they are now able to access patient files remotely, rather than travelling long distances back to Auckland Hospital.
The Waiheke Island UFB project took just under 18 months to complete and means that over 5,500 local homes and businesses have access to much faster, more reliable internet.
“This is just one example of how Visionstream’s role in the provision of UFB is helping New Zealanders connect, particularly in those more geographically isolated communities, where customers now enjoy the same world-leading broadband speeds as customers in central Auckland,” says Andrew Todd, General Manager Visionstream New Zealand.
“Visionstream is committed to growing the New Zealand footprint through delivering an excellent customer experience and offering innovative, quality products and services in a way that provides value.”
“In terms of the Chorus network, the average connection speed is now 33Mbps; more than doubling over the past year,” added Todd.
Visionstream has completed more than 60 per cent of the Auckland UFB rollout and continues to meet delivery KPIs. More than 30 per cent of end customers passed have taken up a fibre service, setting the benchmark for end customer connections.
Visionstream is proud to play a role in this important technological advancement for New Zealand.
